Jeremy Popelka has been creating hand-blown glass vessels using the Murrini technique for over a decade. While rooted in classical Murano tradition, this method dates back to ancient Egyptian and Middle Eastern cultures. His work combines geometric glass patterns blown into organic forms, often inspired by nature, cellular structures, and traditional textiles. Recent pieces incorporate symbolic motifs referencing Indigenous art.
With over 30 years of experience, Popelka is a skilled glass artist and educator who studied under masters like Dale Chihuly and Bertil Vallien. Based in Wisconsin, he works alongside his wife, Stephanie Trenchard, and has exhibited internationally. His work is held in major collections and featured on PBS’s Around the Corner.
What I Learned

Through demonstrations and hands-on practice with Jeremy Popelka, I studied advanced hot glass techniques, focusing on Murrini. I learned how to create intricate patterns and refine forms through precise control, as well as techniques like incalmo, reverse axis, and punture to enhance complexity and detail in glassmaking.
Applied Knowledge in Practice
I applied knowledge from Jeremy Popelka’s class by developing my own work through the use of the Murrini technique, building on what I learned to create intricate patterns and refined glass forms
